Self-guided Project

Overview

LeafRX is a conceptual app and responsive website designed to help users easily diagnose and care for their houseplants. With features like plant identification, care routine suggestions, and a plant growth journal, LeafRX makes plant care simple and accessible for everyone, regardless of their gardening experience. The project addresses key pain points for plant enthusiasts, such as finding quick, reliable solutions for plant ailments and establishing effective care routines.

The Problem

Plant enthusiasts often face challenges in diagnosing and caring for their plants due to time constraints, information overload, and lack of personalized guidance. LeafRX seeks to solve these problems by providing a simple and intuitive tool for plant identification, care routine suggestions, and progress tracking.

My Solution

With LeafRX, I aimed to empower plant enthusiasts of all experience levels by providing an intuitive platform to identify, diagnose, and care for their plants. By offering tailored care routines, progress tracking, and user-friendly features, the app simplifies plant care, making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Understanding the User

To ensure LeafRX met the needs of its users, I conducted real-life interviews with a diverse group of plant enthusiasts, ranging from beginners to experienced gardeners to shape my user personas.

User 1: Alex (The Beginner Plant Parent)

  • Age: 22 | Location: Atlanta, GA | Occupation: IT Help Desk Specialist

  • Goals: Quickly identify plants and access concise, easy-to-read diagnostic information.

  • Frustrations: Lack of plant knowledge and time to read lengthy articles.

  • Needs: A straightforward app that identifies plants and provides care routines with minimal effort.

"I want to save time finding plant issues and get easy solutions without reading too much."

User 2: Jack (The Busy Gardener)

  • Age: 45 | Location: Covington, GA | Occupation: Warehouse Worker

  • Goals: Keep a thriving garden, monitor plant nutrients, and involve his kids in gardening.

  • Frustrations: Limited time for plant research and difficulty logging plant care progress.

  • Needs: A mobile-friendly tool to log plant care routines and access nutrient information quickly.

"I want an easy way to track my plants’ growth and get reliable care tips without too much hassle."

User Flow

I created this user flow to help guide users from signing in to managing their plants, accessing community resources, and tracking plant health. Key features include a search function, plant recovery, disease information, and group collaboration tools. The design focuses on intuitive navigation and accessibility, ensuring a seamless experience for plant enthusiasts.

Prototyping

Wireframes

I ensured the design remained realistic and feasible for transitioning into a digital wireframe, maintaining a balance between user-friendliness and functionality.

The Final Product

Low Fidelity Wireframes

I wanted to create a final prototype that made processes for users easy and straightforward. The colors and typography were selected to reflect the simplicity and beauty of plant life and caring for our leafy friends.

Conclusions

This was one of my first self-guided projects I have done. The research aspect was intimidating but I quickly found that it was not as scary as it seems.

I truly enjoyed designing wireframes and prototypes and will continue to refine my skills. I do hope to improve my speed and not get hung up on small details so often.

I hope you enjoyed my creation journey and I will see you in the next project!
